About the Band

Driftone Bio

In 2019, a falling out from a prior band brought together Tyler Heckman (lead vocals/guitar) and David Wynn (drums) to form Driftone. Early in 2020, they brought on Colton Alexander (keys). They then brought on Dylan Alms (bass/vocals) in 2023 and Eric Flores (guitar/vocals) in 2024.

The band describes their sound as beach rock; a product of roots reggae rhythm section and the upbeat musically rich sound of California Reggae. They feature passionate guitar work, tasteful harmonies, and complimentary rhythm riffs.

Driftone released 5 singles in 2020 totaling over 30,000 streams on major platforms.

In 2024, they released their first full-length album titled Rolling Loud. The album features strong harmonies, synthesizers, melodic guitar work, and big vibrant rythym sections. The best performing song on the album is the title track, "Rolling Loud," which features Greg Shields from Kash'd Out singing a verse and bringing a wall of harmonies throughout the song. The album also has George Ruiz from The Irie on the song "Homegrown."

Rolling Loud contains songs with a variety of writing styles. Some were written entirely by frontman Tyler Heckman, such as "Grime Scene," "Island Lover," and "Kaleidoscope Skies," while some were written completely by other band members (such as bassist Dylan Alms writing "No Good In Goodbye," lead guitarist Eric Flores writing "Heart's Beat," and drummer David Wynn working with Eric together to write "Recover Me.") The remaining songs were a conglomerated effort between the band.

In 2025, the band has steadily been releasing singles such as "Forget About Me," (a heavily RnB inspired track), "Still My Fault," (a psychedelic/reggae infused song), and "Lovers Rock," (a lovers rock/rocksteady style song). They have more singles on the way in anticipation of the 2025 tour and their album later this year.

The band takes inspiration from reggae groups such as Toots & The Maytals, Rebelution, Steel Pulse, The Wailers, and Tribal Seeds; as well as many personal inspirations like Jimi Hendrix, Pepper, Bad Religion, and The Holdup.

Tyler Heckman

 (lead vocals, guitar)

Mostly growing up on Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen, and Laurel Canyon folk rock, Tyler prides his musical influence to be rich and catchy, with strong meanings and emotional ties. He was raised around the country, but spent most time in Cleveland watching his favorite sports teams lose, in Las Vegas skating and being arrested, and in Los Angeles surfing, skating, and playing hacky-sack.

David Wynn

 (drums)

We think his name is David. He doesn't really speak and just keeps showing up to practice. None of us really know where he came from.

Dylan Alms

 (bass, backing vocals)

He's blonde and he wears glasses. You practically know him already.

Colton Robinson

 (keys, backing vocals)

Hailing from a rocky background, he believes that music is both a stitch and a vile of salt for his deepest wounds. Focusing heavily on incorporating a balance of glamour, foundation, and sensation into his playing, he strives to entertain his audience before he's even on stage.

Eric Flores

 (guitar, backing vocals)

He is in the military, so he DEFINITELY doesn't do drugs or anything.
